Understanding the Key Points of Diesel Generator Bearings

Diesel generator sets are essential for providing power in various applications, and one crucial component that ensures their smooth operation is the bearing. 1. Bearing Gear Ring

The transmission precision of bearings in diesel generator sets is not very high, and the diameter and module of the gear ring are relatively large. Therefore, the gear accuracy level is generally required to be Grade 9 or 10 according to GB/T10095.2—2001 standards. However, due to the impact between the pinion and the bearing gear ring during operation, the gear surface must be hardened. The hardness of the pinion gear surface is typically around 60HRC to ensure a longer lifespan.

2. Clearance

Yaw and pitch bearings have specific clearance requirements. Pitch bearings experience significant impact loads and vibrations when the wind hits the blades. Therefore, pitch bearings require zero clearance or slightly negative clearance to minimize micro-wear during vibrations. Yaw bearings require a small clearance value, typically between 0 and 501 µm.

3. Low-Temperature Impact Strength

Standards specify that the impact strength at low temperatures for yaw and pitch bearing rings should be no less than 27J at -20℃. Diesel generator sets might operate in extremely cold environments, with working temperatures around -20℃. Thus, bearing rings must withstand substantial impact loads under such conditions. The bearing ring material must undergo low-temperature impact strength testing after quenching and tempering treatment, using samples from the bearing ring or identical samples treated under the same conditions, tested at -20℃.

4. Anti-Corrosion Treatment

High humidity environments can corrode the bearing base. Therefore, exposed parts of yaw and pitch bearings must undergo surface anti-corrosion treatment, typically zinc plating, to protect them from corrosion.
